Moving Around

We have been looking at ways to save money - like so many other Americans right now. One child going off to college and a slew of other things going on, we were planning to move; but a chain of events has put a halt on that plan - for a few months at least.

This past week I've moved furniture around in {and out of}our office so that the GID can store some of his business supplies here in the house instead of an expensive storage unit.

It's actually had a good effect. I love my little office space in the dining room.

It puts me out in the main living space so that when I'm working on a project and Harrison is working on something or watching a show I can a.) more easily monitor him and b.) leave him feeling more content that I am in the same room with him and more willing to let me get said project done.

Funny how three years into living in this house I move a couple pieces of furniture around and love it all the more... {of course making it harder to leave if need requires}

I moved the buffet in the kitchen and flip-flopped the my farmhouse cabinet with the microwave stand and found it so much MORE APPEALING, let alone functional!

Finally, I moved Harrison's art supplies out of the buffet and into a built in which is conveniently located next to his table and chairs. Now he has easy access all the time!

Plus, just to top it all off, I've sent junk away to the Good Will, listed things on Freecycle and sold the High Chair on Craigslist.

No wonder I haven't had time to blog!!

I think this qualifies as a good Tackle-It Tuesday post.  but for fun Crafty Tuesday stuff go visit Carrie at Barely Controlled Chaos, she got some fun to show off!

No bikes

Really?

So what are those bicycle racks for again?

Cue the Crickets

So I cleaned out just about 500 emails out of my mailbox. Yeah, that gives you an idea of how things have been around here.

Multi-Tasker? HA!

How about Multi-System shutdown? That's more like it.

I can honestly say that blogging crashed and burned in the last month and a half and the 365 project was literally hanging on by a string only a couple weeks ago. I even have a desire to pick up my camera. To be even be creative. Truth be told, I misplaced my faith in my own ability for a moment.

But I refuse to throw in the towel on the 365 project. I wasn't playing by any rules but my own so I decided I missed some days and that is that. I'm continuing forward.

Let me tell you why I love the 365 Project.

I have a HORRIBLE memory. To the point that I have had friends be disappointed that I can't remember certain moments that they can. To the point that I can pull out a newspaper clipping I had saved about about someone I knew and didn't remember that person any longer. To the point that I will listen to mutual friends recount their version of a story from an event we were all at and I think, "how did I forget that?"
To the point that I look back at Harrison's blog and think, "oh my gosh, I forgot about that!"

But I remember a lot too, so I'm good.

What do I see when I look back at June 2009 [that flew by all too fast] walking into the dining room to find an alien hanging from the plantation shutters, taking pictures for an ad in the monthly newsletter that I edit, a sweet flower brought home for my hair by my boy after an outing with his Daddy. A day at the aquarium when the Lorakeets landed on Harrison, two birthday parties in one weekend with my hubby spontaneously playing DJ at one of them, the Friends of the Library booksale - books for cheap!! Woot! A gift of a Jewish Prayerbook from the Rabbi to Harrison for finishing preschool. Making chicken picata, celebrating new life, losing a toy car out the window and finding it crunched by a real car. More new life, shopping with mommy, making fresh lemonade all by himself.

A good month that I will always easily remember.

Thanks to 365.

Now I just have to brush off the dust and kick out the crickets.

Photo Story Friday - Let Me Elaborate

On Laundry.

I HATE it. I know - most everyone hates doing laundry [with exception of those few oddities that enjoy doing housework in the buff wearing only a pair of 3 inch stiletto heels] ...but I digress.

Laundry.
I am exceptionally bad at the whole task.
It isn't uncommon that I leave a load in the washer for days...opps.
Although...

I do like laundromats. I love the lines of washers and dryers, the wheeled baskets, the vending machines filled with mini boxes of detergent and softner. I also love grittiness of older laundromats found in small towns of the midwest with all their multi-colored coin dryers showing age and wear; I always image what stories could be told.

Let's not forget that requisite, "sitting in the dryer" photo-op moment that all young people feel compelled to try. [not me though - um - can you say claustrophobic?]

BUT what I love most about laundromats is that I can do SIX loads of laundry all at once!
When I was a young, busy single person it always ended up being a roll of quarters, six loads of laundry and a good book at the laundromat. Not to mention some great people-watching opportunities.

Now days it's a bedspread, a roll of quarters [for one load in the oversize washer] and a four-year-old.

Can you say - FUN!

And this laundromat - not so gritty, on the contrary quite shiny-white and new. (but it still has the mini-detergent boxes!)

Wait until he grows [WAY] up and realizes that you can climb into the dryer...

BSM - A Quick Trip...

To the laundromat.  That was the weekend high for us - that and ordering pizza to take to the park and eat.  (I know, I know; but it was next door to the laundromat and it was getting rather late in the evening.)

We got a lot of evenful changes just over the horizon - maybe after the storm of change I can get back to having concrete thoughts (i.e. blog posts...) then again, maybe not.

At least there are pictures.

What is it about some pictures that just scream "make me black and white!"?

More best shots at Mother May I.

Redondo Beach Baby Photographer | More Yummy Babies!

I had the pleasure of taking my girlfriend's maternity pictures a few months back, then a few short weeks later I was back for the newborn shoot! My first NEWBORN shoot - as in 7 days old! Needless to say, as much as I am comfortable with and know my friend well, I am still a perfectionist and want the photos to turn out perfect. As well as the experience.

Everything is delivered and all went well. (although I can give a list of things I need to try differently or do - or just take a breath - a little more often - but most of all...Trust MY instincts!!  there are a couple shots that I saw in my head but didn't stop and get, but that's how we learn to work with people, eh?

Oh the love!!

Redondo Beach Baby Photographer | Photo Work...

A couple months ago I did a new baby photo shoot for a friend.  It wasn't a "newborn" session because this adorable little guy was actually born premature a few months previous. His mother developed HELLP Syndrome which is potentially life-threatening to a pregnant woman and he had to be delivered early.

So what a joy to celebrate his life and record this healthy, happy 9lb baby shortly after he came home from a hospital stay that took him up through his original due date. [If you follow me on Flickr, you may have caught a sneak peek of him in my 365 set.]

Even now as I look at these my heart skips a beat at how beautiful this family is and what a miracle life can be. I can't help but smile - even giggle each time I gaze at these images.  Simply awesome.

And if that's not enough; they brought me back to document another important day in this little guy's life, his baby naming.  The WHOLE family was there this time - and what a family! They made me feel right at home; I had such a great time with this incredible family and we got some great memories!

And this is half of their family!

This is the doctor and nurse that took care of little L. all those months - he was in GOOD hands.

I look forward to his six-month session; we're already talking about it!
