The Egg-cellent Experience Continues

Once Harrison finished up some nice egg dying and went down for a nap, I did a little dying of my own. I had blown out a few eggs over the last couple months. (when I would remember while making scrambled eggs for breakfast...)
I LOVE blown eggs, I love the sound the empty shell makes when you gently tap on them. I have made quite a few over the years; but only recently did I discover I could re-purpose to little snot-sucker thing I got when Harrison was a baby! I know, you are supposed to throw them away after baby's cold, blah, blah, blah; but come on, I wasn't going out and buying a new sucky-shot-thingy every time he got a "Booger" stuck in there. And it's nothing that a little hot water and soap can't take care of. Actually, I didn't have to use it much for it's true purpose, Harrison was really good at blowing his nose up until about the time he started thinking about it. Suddenly his natural ability to keep mouth closed and blow air through nose dissipated.

Anyway, where was I?

Oh, Empty egg shells. Love them.
So this year, being the first time in years that I've decorated eggs, I got a wild hair to try some different techniques - coloring brown eggs, blown eggs and decoupage eggs, silk tie dying, tissue paper dyes and natural dyes. Oh, I especially like the idea of the natural dyes. Using onion skins, turmirac, red cabbage, etc.

But Harrison is ONLY 3 and I am out of practiI settled for brown and white eggs dyed in traditional store-bought dye for Harrison's first egg coloring experience and decoupaging my blown eggs after Harrison went to bed. I really wanted to do the natural dyes but it seemed like a lot of work (albeit really cool experience) for just the two of us this year. Now that he's got the hang of the egg-dying thing I just may do the natural dyes next year. I'm happy with my egg results, I especially love the deep, muted colors of the brown eggs.

Here are my eggs, warmly tucked into a nice little basket. Now I can tuck them away until next year!

Edited to add: Guess I'm not the only one wanting to try the natural dyes! Check out Crunchy Domestic Goddess and ShutterbugMama for their successful attempts at dyeing eggs with - FOOD!
