Friday | I’m thinking…

sleeping with daddy-1
that this [missed] picture of  the Boy contently sleeping next to Daddy will always make me smile when I look at those sweet little six-year-old lips and the little-boy hand that isn't so little any longer.

And it will always bring the full vision of both of them snuggled there together, sleeping heads turned toward each other. If I could draw an imaginary line around their heads and hands, finishing it off with a point. You would see my heart wrapped around them.
On my way out of the house for a shoot, I tried too quickly to capture the moment; I had the 50mm on and didn’t want to disturb them as I held the camera high over my head.

I missed.

But it still makes me smile.

What friends are thinking today...

Oh WOW!!! There is truly nothing better than an image in white, and you've captured such a beautiful moment! Absolutely LOVELY in every way! Your composition is amazing!

And what sweet, sweet words to wake up to this morning! You totally started my day off right! :-) I don't think I've ever been compared to an "actual" photographer before - what a huge compliment! And no...no studio space... I just had my little one stand up against a wall in our basement. I would have like to have played with my exposure and focus more...but you know how 2 years old are ... LOL!! She was on to the next thing. :-)

Really, thank you so much for such a big compliment! I bookmarked Stephanie's site, and I can't wait to really take a good look! Hubs and I are leaving this morning for KC (no kids!)...and I'm excited to take a look when we get back. Thanks so much for the link!

(AND... totally laughing at your fork in the road post - LOL!) Love it! :-)

this is just perfect... such a tender sight.

one of my favorite photos i've taken is of my husband and son taking a nap together. he's just a baby in it, but it is still so precious to me. and the great thing about these photos... they are perfectly still for the camera, so no blurry shots! =)

love this.

Essentially, it is all about the memories that are evoked of the shots we take. I have lots of these that I've taken of the family from different functions and stolen moments. I've been tempted to delete them but the picture in my head and the feeling they conjure up are worth much more than a perfect shot.

It looks perfect to me...

I think it's perfect as is. :) I love the negative space in it and my eyes are drawn right to your son's hand, then his face, then your husband's hand.
I keep meaning to get pictures of my son sleeping, but I'm always afraid I'll wake him up! LOL. I need to just do it though. Sleeping kiddo photos are just so precious.

LOVE the composition in this photo Rose! I think I like it better this way instead of you getting the whole scene in it. It just speaks more to the fleeting moment. I would have "planned" this shot like this for that very reason. Frame it!

I love Georgia's choice of word. Tender. Completely pure and sweet and tender. Totally love this. Sometimes the misses are the best shots.

Does your son sleep with you guys? Just curious.

I love this photo, especially because you "missed" it. I can still see the tracing of the heart there.

Thanks all! what nice comments to come home to.

Jessica, my son doesn't sleep with us regularly, when he's sick or has a bad dream, he will; but he comes and crawls into bed with us in the early morning quite often to snuggle and sleep with us for a few minutes. We love that.

We couldn't sleep with him, he's all over the bed constantly and we don't get good rest and mom & dad with no rest is a deadly combination.

This is so sweet, Rose. I, too, love the composition and even though you feel you missed it, I feel you nailed it. I adore it.
