Sunday Self # 5
I'm not a "group craft" kinda gal; but I came home with this mirror from a MOP's (Moms of Preschoolers)session one day. I'm still not sure what to do with it, although it worked well for a couple self portraits.
what I DO know about my car and then some
We pulled up to the curb and stopped in front of the small crowd gathered at our house for lunch after Big Brother's graduation, when - POP - the knob flew off the gear shift of my car. [the aftermarket, phallic, need-for-speed-wannabe gear shift that was installed in my very conservative Toyota by the previous owner's 19-year-old son - and after all that he didn't want the car - he joined the Marines. The later being of sound judgment, BTW.]
Now I can't get it into reverse or park. Gah!
Let's just go in and party with the graduate!
******************************************
Cut to this morning. There's a little rectangle piece of plastic that if popped off evidently reveals a button [or something] inside allowing me to override the gearshift and put the car into reverse - or park...or not. Nope.
I call Triple A - thank goodness for AAA. When he arrives, the driver says, "I can show you a trick..." [the little rectangle tab - been there, done that...] He tried it - didn't work. [I told you so!]
I may be a woman but, really, I'm not an idiot. I once had to teach a friend how to change his car battery... and use jumper cables.
Cut to the garage. It's after Noon. Can't get new parts, can't get a rental car. My mechanic fiddles around inside for a moment then calls me over and shows me a screwdriver.
"You're going to need this" he says.
In the mean time his assistant comes over, "Hey there's a...", "Rectangle tab that allows me to get it into gear, yeah, tried that."
He tries anyway.
No luck.
Told you so! [seriously people]
So what do I do with that screwdriver?
Fun, huh?
Get out the lawn chairs, Pabst Blue Ribbon and muscle shirts - I'm feeling SO Trailer Trash!

Did'ya Not Read That Written Drivers Test Ya Took?
Seriously, three times in the last couple of weeks I've had the displeasure of watching *stupid* lame-brain drivers play chicken with emergency vehicles. I can't tell you how much it irks me! Is this a Southern California thing? Got to get past that ambulance driving toward you, god forbid you have to stop for Ah-moment.
This occasion I had the camera in hand. (well, in the seat next to me and I grabbed it as I sat at the red light). what you don't see just out of the frame to the left is the crunched small pickup truck loaded on a flatbed.
Note to the lame-brains, while taking your next drivers test, when you read the question,
D for DUH! Doh! Doot-dee-doo.
And don't even get me started on stop signs.
...this has been a public service announcement for Photo Story Friday - don't make me come find you.

"When you hear the scream of an emergency vehicle what does the law require you to do?"Please, Please remember that the answer is D.
a. Speed up and get out of the way
b. Signal the driver to pass
c. Make a quick left-hand turn in front of oncoming emergency vehicle
d. Pull to the right and far as possible and STOP

Parenthood.
I love the 365 project because it makes me see things in my life from a different perspective.
This sweet little statue that sits on a sunlight shelf under a window made me think of this quote.
It is so true.

catching up
So. I rented a lens over the weekend.
The highly-coveted Canon 24-70mm f2.8L. That is one sweet lens! And heavy! I put my 50mm fixed lens back on and practically threw the camera overcompensating for the weight change! [Okay not really, but you know what I'm getting at.]
It was fun to play with, I used it on Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening to shoot a friend's event, Monday for Memorial Day and today for a new baby shoot.
Then it was time to take it back...
bummer.
"Someday it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine!"
In the meantime, here are some pictures from Saturday's play date. It was an invasion of the blondes! My one friend, whom I've known since the 6th grade, has triplets, my other friend has a daughter with a little boy on the way...like THIS WEEK!
This template is a free sample from MCP Actions, check her out for a lot of great stuff. I LOVE this, it's so quick and easy to use and perfect for a night like tonight when I want to get on and off so I can get some much needed REST. MCP Actions are definitely on my wish list!
In the mean time I'll just have to settle with trying out the gorillapod that I WON from MCP [weeks ago] which finally arrived in the mail today! Whoopee!
Thank you MCP and Photojojo!
I'm behind on my Goggle Reader and won't get much time this week, as I have a son graduating from High School on Friday.
Wowzer! Crazy.
