When I think of breakfast I think, “The Most Important Meal of the Day”. I’ve spent most of my life eating cereal – hot and cold.  The older I get the less of a morning person I become.  The more tired I am, the less chance  I have at making a good bowl of hot oatmeal until I’ve had my first cup of coffee and awoken a bit more.  Heck,  just the other morning, in my tired state, I poured orange juice over Harrison’s cereal.

Now if I’m starving when I first wake up I can always manage a bowl of cold cereal (as long as there is no orange juice near by).  But I love breakfast and I always eat more later… when my body is awake.

Some mornings when I’m really lucky, the G.I.D. will make us eggs (once he’s first-cup-of-coffee awake). Let me tell you, he makes Awesome eggs.

Still, I tend to romantically wish every morning started out relaxed and tranquil, sitting at the table bathed in soft sunlight, drinking tea and eating homemade toast with fresh strawberry jam.  Then I realize where that sweet dream comes from. Mornings at my grandparent’s house during childhood. Precious memories that I want to recreate with my own child.

And for a long time I really tried to make Harrison well-round breakfasts. Then Grade School happened.  The rush to get ready, to get him breakfast, dressed, shoes on, teeth and hair brushed, lunch made and out the door for school.   He eats his fair share of cereal.

After all that, I quickly grab my coffee mug (which has been lovingly filled by the Guy-I-Dig with coffee he set to brew that night before). The one I use EVERY day, day-in, day-out.  It’s not a cool photographic retro mug or a colorful, fun mug that doubles as a food photography model.

Oh no
it’s an old travel mug that I am literally lost without. I mean go-through-withdraws lost without. Like OCD lost without.

Lovely, isn’t it.

Luckily, we have a backup copy.

Oh wait, I LOST that one.

First off, I love that table! Secondly, I'm not much of an egg person, but those eggs look good. I occasionally have hard boiled eggs, but always forget about them and thus never make them.

I'm with you on this. In my head I dream of beautiful quiet breakfasts where we all gather around the table... but it just doesn't happen. I am not a morning person and I feel like it's enough pressure to create family dinner time without having to create another family meal.

Some days I wish things were different but then I realize that we have it so good. My kids GET breakfast in the am and that is a huge blessing... even if it is cold cereal eaten quickly before catching the bus. :)

I love your mug. :)

Thanks for stopping by Veronica! Nice to meet you too!

Michelle, I'm amazed that at the breakfasts that I still actually make for my son. I thing by 7 years old, I was on my own. That's when the milk and cereal started...

That egg looks soooooooo yummy! My hubby also makes a mean egg, and don't you even dare touch his omelets. Okay, now I'm drooling.

I am just the same! Mornings are dreadful for me and these daysI prettymuch have to get up before the sun rises and I HATE it.

Love your blog. Such a nice place!

It looks like he makes some pretty amazing eggs. I hadn't thought about it in ages but my grandma used to make us the best breakfasts too. They were cobbled eggs in these weird egg cookers and they were amazing. Thanks for the memory of her today!

I too drink from the exact same mug every day. It's a Christmas mug, though it's not overtly Christmas so whatever. :) It's got too chips in it the last couple months and I'm already panicked about what I'm going to do when it breaks.

For me... breakfast is always the same. Cheerios, banana and milk. I love it and feel cheated when I have to eat a real, cooked breakfast... Maybe I should eat both.

Thanks so much for stopping by The Helpful Blogger. I appreciate the follow and am glad to find you blog through it.

Have a great day,

Lou

Love your photos of breakfast and your well worn table. So pretty!

We don't really do the wonderfully wholesome breakfasts either. I am lucky if I can get the kids out of bed and out of the house on time. They eat either cereal or toast as fast as possible since none of us seem to get up early enough! :)
